AT and AAC Assessments
The consideration of Assistive Technology (AT) is an ongoing dynamic process of exploring and integrating tools to help an individual complete a task in a given environment. At the C4AT, we offer individual-centered AT and AAC assessments. We work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive and thorough insights into access tools and implementation strategies.
We provide assessments for adults and children with a variety of disabilities. We specialize in helping people whose complex access needs do not fall neatly into a single disability category – for example a person who has combined physical, communication, and learning challenges. Here are two examples:
- A client with low vision and autism, plus auditory processing disabilities needed an easy Windows interface that he could access. We combined a simplified desktop app with simple keyboard controls with tactile key locators for him to navigate.
- A blind client with intellectual disabilities and a stutter, needed to access her new iPad. We leveraged a specialized bluetooth switch device with large buttons which we tactilely augmented, to enable her to navigate with VoiceOver.
Assessments are billed on an hourly basis. We recommend contracting with us for 15 hours; we only bill for time used in the assessment.
